The Whale Museum is a non-profit organization that opened in 1979 to study the Southern Resident orcas in Washington State and continues to research, advocate for and educate the general public on the Orcas.
I wanted to highlight the Whale Museum because something very special happened on my birthday in 2014. I had an Orca swim right under the boat I was on! I took that as a sign to learn more about this endangered species, and signed up to take a Marine Naturalist Training program at the Whale Museum the following year. I was so impressed with the museum’s stewardship of these Orcas and wanted to support them during our 12 Days of Giving, particularly due to the financial hardship they’ve experienced the past few years with Covid-related state-mandated closures.
