So many people express the desire to work with horses and yet have no experience of being around horses.
Enter: Energetic Horsemanship!
Energetic Horsemanship is a 3-day workshop with Equine Gestalt Practitioner, Lorrin Maughan, Riding Instructor emphasizing correct biomechanics, Jodi Short, and lifelong equestrian & animal communicator, Joan Ranquet.
Because horses are prey animals, they require a different kind of alertness and mindfulness as to how to safely share space with them to be able to do animal communication, energy healing and body work.
This workshop combines practical horsemanship with energetic perception to empower the non-horsey animal communicator or energy practitioner with tools to be able to confidently handle themselves with horses.
The exercises help to create awareness, boundaries, humility and poise. There will be classroom and arena work. Students will have an overall understanding of anatomy and how it shapes their behavior.
The Practical Horsemanship part: You will have hands-on experience with tack and equipment, hands-on experiences with leading horses as well as liberty work (working with horses without tack, creating a sense of freedom, connection and choice for the horse). You will understand the gaits and how they work.
The Energetic Perception part: Several exercises are geared to help you understand the energy field of a horse and your interaction with it.
The Gestalt perspective: the students will observe the horses individually and as a herd. They will observe the behavior, relationships and dynamics AND observe themselves observing!
There are lots of laughs, lots of "a-has", snacks and two yummy vegan lunches. We hope you’ll join us!

Workshop Details
We'll be gathering at my ranchette in Santa Clarita, California for this hands-on workshop. Travel information will be sent ahead of time, and the general schedule is as follows (with some room for flexibility):
Day 1: Monday, June 9th – 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM Pacific
- Meet and greet; safety
- Brief history of the horse: domestication, wild, and plight of the Mustang (Joan)
- Anatomy (Joan and Jodi)
- Gestalt observation with Horses (Lorrin)
- Energy Field
Day 2: Tuesday, June 10th – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Pacific
- Exercise grounding and connecting to the horse (Lorrin)
- Groom horses – put on halter/pick up feet (Jodi)
- Leading/boundaries (Lorrin and Jodi)
- Horse Labyrinth
Day 3: Wednesday, June 11th – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Pacific
- Experience movement, gaits from all ages and walks of life!
- Tap, Retrieve & Labyrinth
- Play with equipment; “Stick Horse” exercise
- Liberty work with horses
- Debrief whole experience
A vegan lunch will be provided on Tuesday and Wednesday (the longer days), plus snacks, coffee, tea and water throughout our time together.
There will also be opportunities for private one-on-one Equine Gestalt coaching sessions with Lorrin and one of the herd (Anya, Drakkar, Pegasus and/or Felina). You can inquire about these ahead of time or during the workshop.

My name is Joan Ranquet and I’ve been teaching Animal Communication and Energy Healing since 1998 and practicing it for many years prior to that. More than 25 years of experience, along with a lifetime of love (and loss) have prepared me to offer this opportunity to you. One that will enrich your life and the lives of those around you (animal or human).
Even with the diverse backgrounds of students in every class – in person or online over Zoom – all our teachers work with each person at their own level as needed. And the camaraderie of like-minded individuals creates a safe space that’s conducive to learning. When you put yourself in a safe environment to practice with people who are supportive and compassionate toward your interests and journey, it inspires confidence.
